The basement reconstruction has been the most extensive part of the restoration of our 1900 farmhouse. Our old stone and mortar foundation was failing. This caused all sorts of problems which included doors and windows not shutting properly, rodents entering the home and some moisture problems in the basement. The foundation was simply giving out. The house was jacked up and the old foundation was excavated. The basement previously had 7 1/2 foot walls and 9-foot walls were poured in its place. The new concrete basement will now be able to be used as a living space.
